What is in a name?

A few years back, when I made this blog; honestly, I didn’t know what I was doing and now, I’m still unsure if I’m doing it right. I came up with the name the Blue Debonair because of two reasons: (a) my favorite color was blue and (b) I was a sad creature at the time. I was too melodramatic; basking in the sadness that is my life. Yes, I was a high school teenager and I already think that life is hard. A lot of people think of it as just too pretentious especially given the fact that I was a kid; but I would like to contribute it to the fact that I have always believed myself to be an old soul. Growing up, I never really enjoyed the games that kids play on the computer; I was not that engaged in sports and outdoor activities because I believed that they were wastes of energy. Moreso, I was a fan of Polos, dress shirts, and formal clothing; teen music doesn’t appeal to me as much as the good old classical music with a tinge of Jazz. I, however, am not as boring and/or as melodramatic as I seem to be. I also enjoy being crazy, engaging in extreme activities, and drinking and partying out like a typical young adult should do. But, the urge to be responsible for myself and my siblings is above everything else. Guess, no one can really be put into a box and be classified as one thing alone. We all have more than one personality aspect. That’s what makes us special.

 

A jack of all trades and yet; master of none.

The Back Story

I gained quite a number of pounds due to a very sedentary lifestyle, and the fact that I overindulge food intake. I eat out too often, take the easy route (fast food dining) and I plainly did not care what went inside my body. When you are going through what I was going through emotionally, you wouldn’t really care. So I went on, and before I knew it, I gained 10 kilograms in a span of one month, and rapidly gaining more. Then it woke me up,

However sad life may be, it will still keep moving forward. If you stay sedentary, you will be left behind.

So, I started working out. Thank God for Gold’s Gym Katipunan. I registered for an unlimited Gold’s membership and started working out real hard, real time. It paid off, I may have not that ripped body and those 8-pack abs that are to die for, I started to lose those extra flabby pounds. Then I said goodbye to my fast food dining craze. I welcomed the Paleo diet: which is basically eating the way the prehistoric people ate, mostly raw foods, and a lot of greens. I know it may sound a bit off, but it’s really effective; you lose the pounds, and you gain the strength, and endurance.

I learned to say NO to this.

Despite my desire, and my ultimate goal (ripped body); I still tend to cheat. Eat fast food once in a while, or overindulge in chocolates, and cakes. Because, deep inside me, I know there is still the fat kid who indulges in eating a lot of food. But I don’t listen to him a lot now, because I know that in this world not only will you live longer, but you will also be more physically attractive, which as I realized it, was a very vital factor in society’s judgment of any individual. And this fact makes me sad, because we have lost the true meaning of every individual: the person within. I know it may sound too idealistic, but would you not agree that it is better to fall in love with a person of great attitude than with a person that only has great looks?

5 Months.

Yes, it’s been 5 months since I shared my insights on this blog. It’s been quite some time, and a lot has changed.

Ever since, my mom’s passing, I have tried my best to find a new niche in this universe.

After 5 long months, I MADE IT.

I found a new life, new job(s), new reason(s) to live; a new me.

But despite these, I still ponder, “What has happened?” and “What have I done with my life lately?”

K-12 Education in the Philippines

Basically there is nothing wrong with adding two years in any educational system, but when we talk about our country, the Philippines, which by the way is a Struggling Third World Conservative Democracy, we cannot disregard the fiscal aftermath of permitting these kinds of changes to the educational system of the country.

I have wrapped the various reasons why it would be problematic for the Philippines into one argument:

Feasibility

In every activity, there always is a financial value being entailed. I would like to discuss this issue in two levels:

On the side of the government

The state has a commensurate role to protect and preserve the values of its sovereign members more than that, the state also has the commensurate role to uphold social services and basic necessities of its citizens, and a good educational system is one of those services.

It is clear in status quo however, that the state has not yet fulfilled the country that basic necessity. There is a large lacking of classrooms, useable furniture and equipment, qualified teachers, and textbooks.

If we pursue the additional 2 years in basic education, there would be a need for a bigger number of classrooms, furniture, teachers, and textbooks. We will just be adding more problems to the already increasingly problematic educational system of the country.

To quote editor of The Philippine Star, “we need to have better education, not more education.”

On the side of the society

Parents and guardians all over the country are already shelling out a lot of money to support the education of their children: tuition and miscellaneous fees, everyday transportation charges, and daily baon.

If we pursue the education revamp proposal, parents will have to shell out more money for the education of their children. This will be very problematic for the general society.

And what if the parents cannot afford anymore the increasing finances of their children at school? Then they would have to drop their kids out of school. The dropping rates would increase. Companies do not accept dropped out children, they would want their employees to be degree holders. Hitherto, unemployment rates would rise simultaneously,

Basically, the end-all and be-all of an educational revamp in a third world struggling democracy, would spell out disaster.

Tears on a Pillow

It has been weeks since my mother’s passing. I know it’s somehow not acceptable by social standards that I am still shedding tears. But, it’s just that I had this special connection with her, that up until now I cannot fathom that she really is gone.

Last night, I had another dream of my mother. Since her passing, I’ve had many dreams of her. Mostly were happy moments, the moments we have had together as a family or the moments we could have had if she was still here. But last night was different, it was more vivid than usual. It was like she really was there and I fit perfectly in the scene. This time, however, her mood was serious. Her words went this way,

NJ, anak, I am departing the Earth to be at peace with our Father in Heaven. Thank you for everything you have done for your brothers and the whole family. I am so proud and thankful. I love you all. Pass on my love to your Tatay and brothers Emmanuel, and Angelo. Remember that I will always be with you in spirit.

It has finally dawned on me that I should let her go. We should all let her spirit free. I said my goodbyes and said a prayer to the Lord, before reality came back to my senses and…

an AWESOME post

Today, I spent half my day chilling at my home: turning the audio systems on, enjoying a bag of chips, browsing the web for interesting blogs. Everything was as boring as it is until I stumbled upon the inactive blog of my best friend. Of course, these kinds of trivial things intrigued me, and seeing that I have nothing left to do in the next two hours, I set down on reading most of his articles.

 Mostly his articles were your average blog articles, until you notice that the word awesome has been used more than necessary. Yes, he was mostly writing on how to upkeep an awesome life. Despite these trivial things I noticed, I still find certain interesting facts about him that can really be applied into real life. Let me lay it down here:

HAVING FRIENDS IS AWESOME

This is something I have realized only lately. No man can live alone; he always needs someone to be with in times of trouble through and through. Consider yourself very lucky if you find a buddy that would always be with you: share stories with you, give you ample pieces of advice, or simply be there to support you. Remember that whatever happens, you always have these kinds of people who will stand by in all cases, and help you maintain the AWESOME self that you are.

DRAMA IS SO UN-AWESOME

“The time for men to watch soaps have come and gone.” (Jabines, 2009)

I know that drama is an unnecessary evil in modern society but don’t let it make you succumb. (bitch, please) It is okay to hurt over a broken relationship, or a simple bust, but it so un-AWESOME if you let this drama take over your life and act like some leading man in the most dramatic soap opera ever in the next weeks. Remember that you have other people who care for you and let them be the safeguards to help you uphold the AWESOME reputation you carry.

TEENAGERS ARE MORE AWESOME THAN ADULTS

A lot of adults tell you that there are things that you don’t know still because you’re young. Well, we say, you lot can’t be AWESOME cause you’re too old. Don’t let the adults get into you. Let them rant all they want just always keep in mind that they can’t all be awesome as you are. They may be omniscient and all but bah! You know how boring intelligent people are. So don’t let them get into you and just stay AWESOME that they can never be.

I hope that these things I learned will rub off on me and let us all be the awesome people that we are. Don’t let all the drama and sadness of reality gobble you, keep being AWESOME!

Ang Propesiya at ang Buhay ng Tao

Sa Bibliya ng mga Kristiyano, marami ang nasasaad na pamamaraan ng katapusan ng sangkatauhan. Nasusulat, “ang katapusan ng sandaigdigan ay magulo, baabgsak ang mga industriyang itinayo ng mga tao; magkakaroon ng kaguluhang pampulitkia at babalutin ang daigdig ng init at tubig.” Kung papansining mabuti, ang daigdig ngayon ay tila nagsasakatuparan nan g mga isinasaad ng mga propesiya.

Gumuguho ang mga sistemang piskal ng mga makakapangyarihang bansa tulad ng Amerika at mga bansa sa Europa.

Nagkakaroon ng mga rebelyon at kaguluhan political sa mga bansa sa Arabian Peninsula.

Umiinit na ng husto ang mundo at binabaha na ng mga natutunaw na yelo dahil sa global warming.

Guguho ang mga Sistemang Piskal.

Taong 2008 nang magdeklara ang mga kumpanya sa Wall Street, New York ng bankruptcy. Ang Wall Street ay ang kapital pangekonomiya at piskal ng pinakamakapangyarihang bansa sa daigdig, ang Estados Unidos. Karamihan sa mga pinakamalaking kumpanya sa daigdig ay ditto itinayo. Mga kumpanyang tulad ng JP Morgan & Chase ay mga kumpanyang pandaigdigan na kumikita ng bilyun-bilyong dolyares. Kung kaya’t ang kanilang pagdeklara ng bankruptcy ay isang malaking dagok sa sistemang piskal ng daigdig.

Ano nga ba ang tunay na kwento?

Ayon sa mga kumpanyang ito, mga utang na hindi pa nababayaran ng kanilang mga kliyente nila ang isa sa mga pinakamalaking dahilan ng kanilang pagkalugi. Dahil puro labas ng lsalapi ang ginagawa ng mga kumpanyang ito, bumaba ang kanilang kapital. Wala na silang kita sapagkat puro utang at hypothetical na salapi na lamang ang bumubuhay sa yamang piskal ng mga kumpanyang ito. Nang magsimulang hindi magbayad ang mga kliyente ng mga kumpanyang ito, napilitan silang magtinda ng assets: mga bahay at lupa na iniutanga kanila, mga stocks at cash bonds na kanilang pagmamay-ari ay napilitang ipagbili sa pandaigdigang merkado.Sa dami ng ari-ariang ipinapagbili, ay bumaba ang market value ng mga assets na ito. Simpleng ekonomiks: Kapag napakataas ng suplay ngunit sobrang baba naman ng demand, sigurado, bababa ang market value ng mga ganitong uri ng produkto. At siya ngang nagsimula ng pagguho ng maraming kumpanya sa Estados Unidos.

Kaakibat ng pagbagsak ng mga kumpanyang ito ay ang pagbasak ng ekonomiya ng Estados Unidos. Sa kadahilanang nakasalalay ng husto ang ekonomiya ng Amerika sa mga investors nito para sa kita, ang pagbagsak ng Wall Street ay bumaldado ng husto sa sistemang piskal ng Amerika. Bumaba ang halaga ng dolyar sa palitang pandaigdigan, napilitang magrelease ang US Federal Reserve ng malaking halaga bilang bailout para sustentohan ang mga serbisyong pambansa ng Amerika tulad ng edukasyon, military, serbisyong medical, transportasyon, imprastruktura, at iba pa.

Dahil makapangyarihang piskal ang Estados Unidos sa sandaigdigan, ang mga kapwa nitong sistemang ekonomiko sa ibang bahagi ng daigdig ay naapektuhan din. Bumagsak ang mga malalaking ekonomiya sa Europa, Tsina, Japan, Australia at iba pa.

Ito na nga ba ang sinasabi ng propesiya?

Kahit ano pang lakas ng kapangyarihang piskal ng Amerika, ay bumagsak pa rin to. Hindi kaya pahiwatig ito na may mas mataas pang kapangyarihan na nagdidikta ng ating kapalaran? Maaaring siya ang isinasaad ng Bibliyang Kristiyano. At tayo’y binabalaan na magtuwid na ng landas kung hindi ay may mas maraming pang kababalaghan ang gigimbal sa daigdig.

Magaaway-away ang mga tao sa pulitika.

Balitang-balita ang mga kaguluhang nagaganap ngayon sa mga bansa sa Arabian Peninsula. Mga mamamayan ng iba’t-ibang bansa sa Middle East at North Africa. Tinawag itong Arab Spring, isang malawakang kilos-protesta ng mga mamamayan na nagnanais na pababain ang mga diktador na gumigipit sa kanila ng ilang dekada na.

Paano nga ba nagsimula ang lahat?

Nagsimula ang protesta sa pagsusunog ni Mohammed Bouazizi ng sarili sa Tunisia bilang pagpoprotesta laban sa korapsyon at pagmamalupit ng mga pulis. Ang balitang ito ay kumalat sa mga social networks tulad ng Twitter na naging mitsa ng isang malawakang kilos protesta sa Tunisia. Naging matagumpay ang mga rebolusyon sa Tunisia, napaalis ng bansa ang pangulong si Zine El Abidine Ben Ali na nagtago sa bansang Saudi Arabia.

Matapos ang rebolusyon sa Tunisia, nagkaroon ng mga kaguluhang pampulitika sa Algeria, Jordan, Egypt at Yemen ng sabay-sabay. Naging matagumpay ang mga rebolusyon sa Ehipto nang mapatalsik nila sa pwesto si Hosni Mubarak, ang kanilang pangulo ng tatlumpung taon. Dahil sa mga pagkilos na matagumpay tulad nito, dumami na ng husto ang mga pagkilos sa Arabian Peninsula. Sa takot ng ibang pinuno, nagdeklara na sila ng intensyong bumaba; tulad ni Omar Al-Bashir, pangulo ng Sudan at ni Nouri al-Maliki, punong ministro ng Iraq.

Ngunit ang pinakamarahas sa lahat ay ang digmaang sibil sa Libya, laban sa pagitan ng mga ka-alyansa ng pamahalaan at ng mga rebelled. Si Muammar al-Gaddafi, ang pinuno ng Libya ay ayaw bumaba sa puwesto at ginamitan ng dahas-militar ang mga nagrerebelde. Dahil sa kalupitan ni Gaddafi, napilitan ang ibang bansa na mangialam sa mga kaganapan. Binomba ng Estados Unidos at ng ibang bansa sa Europa ang mga kampo ni Gaddafi sa Libya. Naging madugo ang rebolusyong ito, maraming buhay ang ibinuwis at matapos ang ilang buwan ng digmaang sibil ay nasakop na rin ng mga rebelled ang Tripoli at halos lahat ng Libya at kasalukuyang nagtatago ang diktador na si Muammar al-Gaddafi.

Ito na nga kaya ang sinasabi nilang digmaang pulitikal na sisira sa atin?

Iinit ang daigdig at lalamunin ito ng dagat.

Napapanahon ngayon ang kakaibang pagbabago sa panahon at klima ng sandaigdigan. Maraming environmentalists tulad ni Al Gore na ang nagbabala ng mga sakuna na maaaring makuha mula sa pagbabago ng klima. Mula sa pagtaas ng temperatura ng daigdig hanggang sa malawakang mga pagbabaha.

Ano nga ba ang naging dahilan ng climate change?

Maraming dahilan ng pagbabago ng klima, may mga natural na dahilan, meron din naming likhang tao. Isa sa mga natural na dahilan ay ang Thermohaline circulation o ang pagbabago ng direksyon ng mga alon sa karagatan. Ang mga pagbabagong ito sa karagatan ay nakaka-apekto sa mga hangin na siyang nagiging sanhi ng pagbabago ng klima.

Mayroon ding mga sanhi na likha ng mga pagbabago sa kalawakan tulad ng orbital variations at solar output variations. Ang pagbabago sa orbit ng daigdig ay nakakaapekto sa klima. Kapag tumabingi ito, nagbabago ang distribusyon ng enerhiya mula sa araw. Ang mga pagbabagong ito ay nagpapainit o nagpapalamig sa klima ng daigdig. Katulad rin nito ang solar variations; kapag may mga pagbabago sa mga reaksyon ng enerhiya sa araw, ay nagbabago rin ang temperature ng daigdig depende sa dami ng enerhiyang tinatanggap mula sa araw.

Maaaring maraming mga natural na sanhi ng pagbabago ng klima, ngunit alam ng marami na tao ang pangunahing sanhi ng global warming at pagbabago ng klima. Ang mga teknolohiya ng sangkatauhan ang nagbubuga ng CO2, isang gas na nagpapalala ng pagbabago sa klima. Hindi pinapalabas ng gas na ito ang init ng daigdig pabalik sa kalawakan kaya ay tumataas ng husto ang temperatura ng daigdig.

Ano nga ba ang implikasyon ng climate change?

Unang-una sa lahat ay ang pag-init ng daigdig. Tumataas ng tumataas ang temperature ng daigdig, umiinit ang kapaligiran. Ang pag-init na ito ay maraming implikasyong sukbit.

Masama para sa ilang hayop at halaman ang pag-init ng daigdig. Dahil sanay ang mga hayop at halaman sa medyo malamig na klima, ang pag-init nito ay makakaapekto sa pamumuhay ng mga organismong ito. Mayroong mga uri ng hayop at halaman ang hindi kayang mamuhay sa mainit na klima.

Sakit ng tao sa sobrang init ay isa rin sa mga implikasyon ng global warming. Ang bilang ng mga kaso ng heat stroke, dehydration at iba pa ay tumataas na rin.

Ang pinakamasaklap na implikasyon ng global warming ay ang pagtaas ng sea level. Dahil sa sobrang init ay nagkakaroon na ng pagtunaw ng mga yelo sa mga polar caps at snow mountains. Ang pagtunaw ng yelo na ito ay nagdadala ng mga pagbabago sa sea level. Tataas ang sea level sa pagtunaw nito, at kaakibat nito ang mga malawakang pagbabaha.

Salitang naisabuhay.

Dahil sa patuloy na pagragasa ng global warming at pagbabago ng klima, ay hindi malayong magkatotoo ang propesiya ng Bibliya na iinit ang daigdig at malulunod sa malawakang pagbabaha. Kung hindi magbabago ang mga tao ay maaaring sa loob ng dekada ay uminit ng husto ang daigdig, matunaw lahat ng yelo na magdudulot ng pagtataas ng sea level at tuluyang pagkawasak ng daigdig.

Ang propesiya at ang buhay ng tao.

Maaaring hindi natin ramdam lahat ngunit ang mundo ay dahan-dahan nang nagbabago. Maaaring ang katapusan at wakas ng ating sibilisasyon ay tunay ngang nalalapit na. Hindi ba’t kakaiba na nagkataong nagsabay-sabay ang mga pangyayaring ito? At na ang lahat ng ito ay nasasaad ng mga propesiya sa Bibliya? Baka nga siguro, kapag tayo ay hindi magbabago, an gating mundo ay tuluyan ng maglalaho.
